Chapel of Rest: 1990s death metal with elements of old school Metallica-type riffing, wrapped around sore throat vocals.
Best description of Chapel of Rest would be 'Jolly Spiffing Death Metal.'
With the Thrash scene dwindling in the early 1990s (thanks mainly to Metallica for wimping out) there needed to be a musical outlet for moshers who dismissed 3 chord grunge.
In Chapel of Rest, the complexity of thrash was maintained but grinding vocals progressed the sound to more of a death metal feel.
And isn't that what we all wanted, something decent to slam to!

The first demo, 'Memorium' was recorded at the 'Warren' in Hull. The 'Warren' was a pretty weird place; a kind of hang out for single mothers, tye dye freaks and other errr butch looking women.
We recorded all the tracks in a day, then got the crap out. The sound engineer was a cool guy and the studio time was free, so I guess it was nothing to complain about.

For our second demo, 'Twilight' Phil splashed out the reddies and we got Fairview, just outside of Hull for a week. Some famous bands had recorded there, wish I could remember who though! I think a well known industrial/grindcore type band were in the same studio a few weeks before us.
The sound engineer, Danny Shackleton played keyboards on the demo and was a nice guy. He didn't seem too concerned if we kept messing up a piece - maybe he was hourly!
