ANDY FARRINGTON...it's all about Jeep, isn't it?!

Okay, so I did it; got rid of ye olde Infinity Gold stereo and bought a new Pioneer CD player. The purchase was more out of necessity than desire, especially considering my inability to fix that crappy display. That said, I am very pleased with the replacement and would probably have upgraded even if the stock stereo was working well.

Out with the old and in with the new: I decided to buy a Pioneer DEH-1600 CD player from Crutchfield. As I mentioned on my Jeep Home Page, I sold the original Jeep stereo on ebay for $95; the Pioneer stereo was $120 - that's a brand new CD player for $25!

Many thanks to Crutchfield, they make the whole installation thing so easy.
1. At their website they stipulate which stereos will fit in a given vehicle.
2. Included in the price is the wiring harness, inner sleeve and faceplate.
3. Installation instructions are also sent and free tech support is available.

So are ya gonna buy a new CD player?
PROS: Well, the display actually works! The unit will play CD-RW and CR-RW disks. More functions/features are available. Radio tuner will provide better reception. And I guess it just looks better!

CONS: Cost of new unit. Self installation.

BOTTOM LINE: If you got the cash and can spare a couple hours for the installation then I would totally recommend a new stereo. Just don't forget to show it off to your friends!
