The Torah.  I knew what I wanted from the start and it was just a matter of doing it.  The black velvet represents the richness of the text and the wealth we draw from this work.  The black cover, for me, is a reminder that the text is missing many voices and the richness is there for me when they are added in by scholars like Judith Plaskow.

 

 

 

Jewish New Year (Yom Kippur)  I realized again how complex this holiday is as it is so intertwined with Yom Kippur.  I had essentially finished the Shofar quilt square and then it begged to have the complexity represented.  That, and the fact that I "messed it up" resulted in the final square.  I think the additional cuts and folds and fabric in the square more aptly represent the complexity of this Jewish holiday.
