SUGAR COOKIES Sour cream and nutmeg lend a different flavor note to this recipe than you expect in traditional sugar cookies. The cookies are delicious plain, sprinkled lightly with sugar before baking, or lightly glazed. 4-1/2 cups flour 1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg 1 cup shortening 2 cups sugar 2 egg yolks plus 1 whole egg, at room temperature 1 cup sour cream, at room temperature Sift flour with baking soda, salt, and nutmeg; set aside. In large mixing bowl at medium speed, beat shortening, sugar, and eggs until light and fluffy. At low speed, beat in sour cream until smooth. Gradually add flour mixture, beating until well combined. With rubber spatula, form dough into a ball. Wrap in waxed paper or foil and refrigerate several hours or overnight. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease cookie sheets, or line with parchment paper. Divide chilled dough into three parts. On well-floured surface, roll out dough 1/4-inch thick and cut.
