Fresh Food Diets and Alternative Care Links

This page is dedicated to  pets who have endured a lifetime
of  highly processed, low biological value diets, and to people who try, each in their own way, to improve upon that situation.
All of these many individual efforts will add up like snowflakes
to change the world for the animals in our care,and increase our knowledge of how that care can best be done.

Also dedicated to Azarte, Valeska Wild Ambition, who gave several people opportunity to grow. To see his page, click on his photo below.

Bellhaven Collie Kennel Diet
(Bellhaven was an extremely successful kennel of show collies, owned by Florence Ilch in Redbank, NJ.  Pictures of Bellhaven dogs still appear in every collie breed book that has an historical section. All of the many beautiful Bellhaven champions were raised on the following diet. The diet was scanned from the diet sheet I received with purchase of my first puppy in the 1960's, from the last litter bred at Bellhaven.)

For Using Kibble and Raw Foods
For ideas on mixing  kibble and raw:
http://www.b-naturals.com/recipes.htm

http://www.b-naturals.com/win99.htm

If you feed dry dog food, there are some supplements you can give that don't hold up well in processed, bagged foods. These would be:

~~vitamin C --Ester C or calcium ascorbate form~~

~~Vitamin E--When using polyunsaturated fatty acids such as fish body oil, antioxients such as Vit C, Vit E, and selenium must also be added.~~

~~ fish body oil; cold pressed flax seed oil;
(for the omega 3 fatty acids)~~

~~B-complex (B vitamins are very fragile)~~

~~A general vitamin/mineral supplement to augment what's avaialable in kibble can be used. Dynamite Showdown, (in which you still need to add Vit E and Vit C), Vetline Veterinary Vitamins, Healthy Hound Canine supplement, Berte's Daily Blend, or a human multi-vitamin/mineral supplement containing trace elements such as selenium and zinc can be used.For info on accessing the makers of the above listed supplements, go to our diet pages. ~~
