If  the dash between the numbers is the part that really counts, Nelson's was rich and full, though far too short. He was a beautiful, brief flash of something rare and wonderful. One thing he never lacked was love. Susan Sills said, "His cup runneth over!" and she was right.

Valeska Deep Blue Sea---Nelson

Our little fellow was born dry, both sacs gone and with no placenta, an astonishing blue all over. But he was lively and full of spunk right from the start.  He is pictured at 3 weeks old here, sleeping in Rey's hand.

The Ears Have It!!

9 weeks
 Nelson was full of happiness and kept up a way-busy schedule in his  life with Dr. Ulibarri, along with three babies, a Neopolitan mastiff, a dobie-shepherd cross, many cats, a few goats, a few more sheep, some ducks (just to be fair to non-mammals) and chickens too. From Dr. Ulibarri:
"He did get to run and play a lot. Comet (the Neopolitan mastiff) was ever so gentle with him and Nelson loved to play tug of war with his ears. Marley (14 year old dobie cross) and Nelson would play chase. He would run circles around her and she would bark at the fun. He had learned to ask for in and out, and he had my mother waiting on him....I  wish that you had gotten to see how gamey he was even though he had some disabilities. He spent hours under the maple trees stalking birds. He never knew he was different. And he loved us as much as we loved him. He really enjoyed washing the babies ears. I guess I shouldn't ask for more."

My Funny Valentine
by Rodgers and Hart

 My funny valentine;
 Sweet, comic valentine;
You make me smile with my heart.

Your looks are laughable;
Unphotographable;
Yet, you're my favorite work of art.

 Is your figure - less than Greek?
Is your mouth - a little weak?
When you open it to speak, are you smart?

Don't change a hair for me;
Not if you care for me;
Stay, little valentine, stay!
Each day is valentine's day.

Rest well Little Guy. We can't wait to see you again.
