Orphan Acres is an educational facility, a place for volunteers to learn and gain hands-on experience in the proper care and handling of horses. We welcome all ages and abilities and are more than happy to train new recruits. Although when you come and how long you stay are both up to you, we do ask that you give us a call beforehand to let us know when you plan to be here. What you will do while you are here depends upon what you are comfortable doing and what we need at the moment.
Some of the projects our volunteers work on include:
• Feeding animals
• Grooming horses
• Cleaning stalls
• Training/exercising horses
• Building/repairing fences
• Caring for tack and other equipment
• Haying (in summer)
• Helping tend sick or injured animals
• Construction projects
• Public relations
Wanted: Volunteer Grant Writer!
We are looking to expand and need to apply for grants to buy more land, so we are hoping to find a volunteer with skills in this area.
If any of these projects sound like a good fit for you, if you have other skills to offer (professional or amateur), or if you'd just like to come out and see what there is to be done, please don't hesitate to contact us. We can't wait to hear from you!
